Engine oil leak from EGR cooler area

Poor sealing of EGR cooler retaining studs allowing oil leakage from cylinder block oil gallery. Fix: fit a modified part.

Overview

Affects
All models with 1.6 Diesel engine, 2015→.
Remedy
Fit modified part

Repair steps

  1. Remove Diesel particulate filter (DPF) to gain access to EGR cooler retaining studs.
  2. Remove one of the EGR cooler retaining studs. Note: Retaining studs must be replaced one at a time to avoid coolant leak.
  3. Ensure stud hole is free from oil and grease.
  4. Fit modified EGR cooler retaining stud and tighten fixing nut to correct torque setting. Tightening torque: 22 Nm.
  5. Repeat procedure for other retaining stud.
  6. Refit Diesel particulate filter (DPF). Note: Exhaust gaskets must be replaced.
  7. Check engine oil level correct.
  8. Check cooling system for leaks.
  9. Check engine coolant level.
