Repair steps
- Remove Diesel particulate filter (DPF) to gain access to EGR cooler retaining studs.
- Remove one of the EGR cooler retaining studs. Note: Retaining studs must be replaced one at a time to avoid coolant leak.
- Ensure stud hole is free from oil and grease.
- Fit modified EGR cooler retaining stud and tighten fixing nut to correct torque setting. Tightening torque: 22 Nm.
- Repeat procedure for other retaining stud.
- Refit Diesel particulate filter (DPF). Note: Exhaust gaskets must be replaced.
- Check engine oil level correct.
- Check cooling system for leaks.
- Check engine coolant level.

Frequently asked questions
What are the common faults with the Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC?
This guide contains 10 workshop bulletins for the Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC. Of these, eight concern the engine and fuel system and one the clutch and gearbox. Symptoms, causes, repair steps and part numbers are shown where supplied.
Does every Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC have these faults?
No. These are patterns documented across the model by workshops, not predictions for an individual vehicle. Where a fault applies only to certain vehicles or VIN ranges, that is listed with the fault.
Can I check for Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC faults myself?
Many of them. The documented symptoms can be seen, heard or felt during a test drive.
