Electrical & ignition

Water/dirt ingress into crash sensor harness multi-plugs.

Affects:

Range Rover 1994-99: All models with SRS, VIN LH 647645→.

When the SRS sensor wiring connector disconnected water/dirt seal may become dislodged or lost.

VIN
Vehicle identification number — 17 characters, found at the base of the windscreen and on the V5C logbook
AC
Air conditioning — the system that cools the cabin
LH
Left-hand — the left side of the vehicle as you sit in it
SRS
Supplementary restraint system — the airbags and seat-belt pretensioners
TC
Turbocharger — the exhaust-driven compressor that boosts engine power
AC/Heater
The heating and air-conditioning system
Anti-Seize
Grease that stops mating parts (like a wheel on a hub) from corroding together
Compressor Pump
The pump that pressurises the air-suspension system
Control Module
A computer that runs one of the car's systems (engine, gearbox, brakes, body, and so on)
Glow Plugs
Heaters that help a diesel engine start from cold
Hub Spigot
The raised centre of the hub that locates the wheel
In-Car Temperature
The cabin-temperature sensor used by the climate control
Intercooler
A radiator that cools the air coming out of the turbocharger before it enters the engine
Multi-Plug
A multi-pin electrical connector on a wiring harness
Multifunction Control Module
The body computer that runs shared electrical functions (lights, wipers, locking, and so on)
Refrigerant
The gas/liquid that carries heat in the air-conditioning system
Valve Block
The set of solenoid valves that directs air or fluid in the air-suspension or gearbox
Wiring Harness
The bundled cables that carry power and signals around the vehicle
Evaporator
The air-conditioning heat exchanger in the dashboard that cools the cabin air
Head Gasket
The seal between the cylinder head and the engine block
Intercooler Hose
The pipe that carries pressurised air between the turbocharger, intercooler and engine
Sleep Mode
The low-power state control modules enter when the car is parked; if one stays awake the battery can go flat
